NextWorld2 mounts: how to get your first one
You don't have to explore the world of Kigan alone. One of the most lovable features of NextWorld2, the free, unique Hungarian-developed fantasy MMORPG, is the pet and mount system: pets make your character stronger in battle, and mounts make your adventures faster and more spectacular. The best news is that you don't have to pay a single coin for your first pet; you basically get it right at the start of the game.
Why is it worth getting into it from the very first days? Because the NextWorld2 pet system is built around a daily rhythm: every day you can pick up a development quest, and every day you skip is a missed boost. If you start early, your pet grows alongside your character, making leveling noticeably smoother. We'll go through how to get your first pet, how to upgrade it smartly, and what you should know about mounts.
What's the difference between a pet and a mount in NextWorld2?
A pet is your loyal companion walking by your side. Click its summoner to make it appear, and as long as it's with you, your character gets the bonuses you've set up in the pet menu. This is important: the pet isn't just for show, it's an active boost, giving you things like extra HP and more power against monsters. If it's not summoned or not with you, you don't get the bonus.
Mounts, on the other hand, are mainly about getting around and looking cool: you can travel faster and look awesome while doing it. In NextWorld2, mounts aren't just cosmetic extras either: they give a permanent bonus to all your characters. The selection ranges from dragons to mystical creatures, and there are even mounts that let you fly, so you can admire the world from above on dragonback.
As a beginner, the order is simple: get a pet first, because it's free and gives you an instant boost, then start collecting mounts once you have some resources saved up. They're not alternatives to each other: they serve different purposes, so it's worth investing time in both in the long run.
How do you get your first pet?
You don't need any tricks to get your first pet: every player who reaches level 1 gets a Baby Pegasus summoner in their inventory. Upgrading and maintaining the Baby Pegasus is completely free, so your pet journey really starts with zero investment.
Using it is super easy: just click the summoner and your little winged buddy will appear next to you. Then open its menu and set up the bonuses, because they only work if your pet is summoned and by your side. If you want to give it a unique name, that's what the Magic Pet Codex is for.
At beginner level, this extra health and monster power helps exactly where most new players get stuck: grinding monsters every day. That's why it's worth keeping your companion summoned from the very first minute.
The key figure for pet upgrades is Pepe, the animal trainer, who you'll find next to the stable boy. Remember his location, because you'll be going back to him for daily quests from day one.
What other pets can you choose from?
Besides the Baby Pegasus, NextWorld2 offers several other companions, each with a different way to obtain them:
- Black Baby Dragon: only available for Karzium in the ItemShop. Karzium is the game's premium currency, but you can also earn it in-game by farming and trading, so with patience you can get it without paying.
- Blue Baby Dragon: also available in the ItemShop, for Dragon Coins.
- Winter Fairy: tied to the Christmas season. Help the Angel get back their gift boxes from the Grinch, and you'll need the Winter Fairy Wand and Winter Fairy Wings to get the pet.
- Dicana's Cat: the Halloween Event pet. Dicana's lost kitten was stolen by Spirits on the Halloween map, and you can get it back in exchange for event items.
We're not listing exact bonuses, abilities, and numbers here on purpose: you can always find the up-to-date info in the pet and companion guide.
Still, for starters, the Baby Pegasus is your best choice: it's free, and you'll learn how the whole pet system works, the daily quest rhythm, and how to manage moods. Even if you get a dragon later, this knowledge will be pure gold.
How do you upgrade your pet?
The engine of upgrading is Pepe's daily quest. Based on your character's level, you'll get a random task to kill certain monsters, so your pet levels up almost automatically as you level up normally. The Baby Pegasus gets 80% experience for completing the daily quest, so it levels up noticeably in just a few days.
The daily routine looks like this: log in, pick up the quest from Pepe, you'll hunt the required monsters while leveling anyway, then return to him and your pet levels up. It's not extra work, just a natural part of leveling, and in return you get a companion that keeps getting stronger.
There's one rule you should always remember: the quest only counts as complete when Pepe actually upgrades your pet. Until the quest you picked up is finished, you can't get a new one. So don't leave the task unfinished, because a hanging quest blocks further progress.
Watch your pet's mood too. Pets lose mood during battles, and the worse their mood, the fewer bonuses they give. That's when the Life Root comes in handy, which boosts your pet's mood by 5%. A happy pet supports you with full power, but a neglected one is just a shadow of itself.
Dragons work a bit differently: using a Dragon Apple gives your dragon 50% experience each time, and the Black Baby Dragon can only be upgraded this way. So if you're thinking about getting a dragon, make sure to plan for apples too.
What should you know about mounts when starting out?
The most common beginner question about mounts is when and what to spend on. The main point of the NextWorld2 mount system at the start: faster travel, unique looks, and a permanent bonus for all your characters. A well-chosen mount is a long-term investment, not just for show.
The selection is wide, from dragons to mystical creatures, and it changes from time to time, so we're not listing specific names here on purpose. You can always find the latest options in-game, on the official NextWorld2 wiki, and in the Discord community.
No need to rush as a beginner: in the first weeks, leveling and upgrading your pet will give you the most, and you can save up for a mount along the way, even by farming Karzium. By the time you really need to choose, you'll know exactly what you want.
One thing to keep in mind: the value of a mount grows with your playtime. The more you travel between Kigan maps, the more you'll appreciate faster movement, and the permanent bonus works for you no matter which character you're playing.
What beginner mistakes should you avoid?
The pet and mount system isn't complicated, but a few small things can make a big difference. Each mistake is easy to avoid if you know about them:
- You forget to summon your pet. Bonuses only work if your companion is by your side, so make summoning it a habit at the start of every session.
- You never open the pet menu. You have to set the bonuses yourself, otherwise your companion won't perform at its best.
- You skip Pepe's daily quest. Upgrading happens daily, and missed days add up fast.
- You pick up the quest but don't finish it. Until Pepe upgrades your pet, you can't get a new quest.
- You're neglecting its mood. A pet in a bad mood gives fewer bonuses; you can cheer it up with Life Root.
- You spend everything in the first few days. First, get to know what you really need; dragons and mounts will still be there later.
- You miss out on seasonal pets. The Winter Fairy and Dicana's Cat are tied to holiday Events, so make sure to get them during the Event.
Where to next once you have your first companion?
Getting your first pet in NextWorld2 isn't a challenge, it's a gift; the real difference comes from consistency: daily quests from Pepe, keeping its mood up, and setting up the right bonuses. The pet and mount system is great because it doesn't demand much from you, just a little daily attention, and in return, it sticks with you throughout your whole adventure. From the Baby Pegasus to seasonal companions and dragons, everyone can find their favorite, and mounts add another layer to the experience.
